For my choice project i decided to do a painting. It was my favorite part of the semester, and an area I really wanted to improve in. I painted a starty night in the forrest. It turned out a lot better then I had hoped. I used shading, highlighting, and blending to create value and depth. I also had to use the splattering technique to create the stars. That was the hardest part becuase it was difficult to control. The easiest part was probably the ground and trees. Overall, it turned out pretty well.
This is my final block print. To do this, I had to use the art and design elements of space, becuase the carving of the block created the reversed print. I also used the element of contrast, to make certain colors stand out. I blended the colors on some of them, and I liked the effect this had on the overall print. I learned how to use bigger shapes and edges, instead of small detail. I liked how it all came together to create a picture. Next time however, I would focus mire and creating and exploring with different patterns, instead of an actual picture. I feel as if block printing works better for abstract designs.
This is my still life painting. The objects i painted are a giraffe statue, a turtle key chain, and a pot. I had to use the skills of blending to make the colors flow. I also used shading to make realisitic shadows. I had to use this concept of shading to create value in the pot as well. It all came together in the end to create a 3D look. It was easy to blend , but hard to create the correct colors.
