This is my second choice project. It is a mug. I stained it with green for the leaves, and then used the bottles of underglaze for the flowers all around it. It was meant to give off a spring -like mood. The colors were a bit harsher than I expected. I used the art elements of design and pattern for rhe outside. I had to remember the skill if pulling a handle and shape because it has been a while since I've made a mug. Overall, I like the way it turned out. Next time I hope to get the mug shape a little more accurate.
This is my first choice project. I really had fun with my set of three doing the designs with stain. So, I decided to continue with it. This one has an abstract pattern, with green and blue. I used design, pattern, and contrast as art skills. I also used the skills of shape for the different parts of it. There is a little lizard on the front of it. I like the way it came out.
This is the final one of my set of three. It is also probably my favorite of all of them. It was made with sea mix, but it looks like regular clay. I really wanted to capture the element of motion in this project. So I used design, shape, and lines to create the effect of a moving swirl. I used dark green to create tear drop shapes that wrapped around the bowl. I left some space to see the movement. They look kind of like they are pouring into the middle of the bowl. I was pleased with the results.
This is the second project of my set of three. My set of three was three projects with intricate designs. This particular project has an abstract combination of swirls. I added the swirls when the project was still green ware. I used black stain. I added the elephant with black glaze. To add all of these I used the elements of pattern, design, and contrast. Unfortunately, the black swirls did not show up very well and it looked sort of faded. I had to use the skills of design and shape to form the pattern. It expresses a fun, cute, feeling.
This is the first of my set of three. My set of three this year is "intricate detail". This project is a vase. I added the detail with blue stain. I had to use the art element of movement, and shape. The design has movement and the vase has a unique shape to it. The skills I used were pattern and design. It turned out well, and I hope to be able to experiment more with other designs for my other two of the three projects.
This is my second bowl. I used seamix clay to make it. It is white with green leave printed on the sides. I has to use the art elements of design and edge to make these leaves. Some new skills I learned were throwing with a new clay, and shape, because I wanted this bowl to be more square opposed to the round ones I usually make. I really like how it turned out. I would only want to improve the foot ring on the bottom and compress the lip.
This is my plate #2. I threw it using Seamix, and I was very happy with how it came out. I decided to use contrast as an art element to make the pumpkin stuck out against the white if the clay. I also only put the pumpkin, so that it wasn't overwhelming with detail. This used the art element of design. Some new skills i used were throwing with seamix, and also painting on the picture on my plate. I like the way it came out. It is an improvement from my first plate.
This is my tall project. It has trees glazed on the outside. It matches my plate. I pushed in the lid to give it a flower-like top. I had to use the skill if choking to make it tall. It has the elements of contrast and pattern. I also had to pull up taller. It has the same Northwest kind of feeling to it. I like how it turned out overall.
This is my first plate. It has trees on it, and a green ring. I had to throw in a different way, and center it wider. It feels like a forest. I glazed trees on it to give it this feel. The background is simple and plain to make the trees stand out more. I used the skills of glazing, as well as pattern to accomplish this. It is one of two plates I made. I would probably try to make it more centered next time.
This is my first finished project of the semester. It is a bowl. I used glaze to make the details stick out more. I also tried out the scrap, which gave it an earthy color. Next time I will try to make the glaze even.
